The Vintage: The 2015 growing season started out as a challenging one with record breaking cold temperatures in February and January. The growing season started out with a very wet June but the remainder of the summer months were dry with below average rainfall. Harvest conditions were excellent and good weather prevailed for much of the harvest period. Despite a rocky start, the 2015 vintage came together nicely with good harvest weather. While crops were slightly reduced by winter damage, the vintage yielded grapes with good to excellent flavour concentration and complexity.
Tasting Notes: A crisp and refreshing example of Niagara Riesling. The lively nose showcases lemon drop, Granny Smith apple, honey and mineral notes. The palate is light to medium bodied, with flavours of citrus fruit, honey, apple and tropical fruit notes. Flavours are rounded out with a clean citrus acidity on the finish.
Technical Notes: Harvested in late September from select vineyards in the Niagara Peninsula. The average brix at harvest were 20.2°. Fruit came in ripe with good acidity and flavour concentration. The grapes were pressed and put into stainless steel tank from fermentation with no secondary malolactic fermentation allowed. After settling and aging in tank the wine was bottled under screwcap in June 2016.
