Ahead by a Century Chardonnay was originally created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of The Tragically Hip’s 5th album – Trouble at the Henhouse which debuted at #1 on the Canadian Albums Chart 20 years ago, stayed #1 for 4 straight weeks and has been certified 6 times platinum.
A delightful balance between fruit and oak with a rich, creamy palate showcasing the ripeness of the 2020 vintage. Lush aromas of vanilla, crème brûlée fresh peach and honey dominate the nose with hints of pineapple and apricot in the background. The palate is medium to full bodied with a silky, buttery texture, balanced by soft citrus acidity. Flavours include charred lemon, orange marmalade and creamy vanilla. The ﬁnish is a rich creamy oak medley with balancing citrus acidity.
Fruit sourced from Beamsville Bench and Four Mile Creek sub-appellations; hand and machine harvested; 60% barrel fermented and the balance fermented in stainless; 100% malolactic fermentation; oak portion aged in 90% new French oak, 10% American; total time in oak was 9 months prior to blending a bottling.
