Stoney Ridge Estate Winery had inauspicious beginnings at the Weylie farm on Ridge Road in Stoney Creek, (hence the name, Stoney Ridge) consisting of a small barn and garage that served as a retail boutique. In December 1986 Stoney Ridge Cellars became the 14th licensed winery in the fledgling Canadian wine industry. Stoney Ridge has a legacy of being one of the fledgling Canadian wineries to help usher in the Nation’s wine industry and its rise to world class wine production.

Under the direction of Winemaker Jim Warren and his two business partners, Stoney Ridge's first vintage consisted of 500 cases of 11 different wines, produced entirely by hand. Stoney Ridge Cellars had a commitment to "make small amounts of the very best wine possible from Ontario Grapes."

Over the next few decades, the winery grew and expanded and moved to its new home at the base of the Niagara Escarpment in Vineland, central to Niagara’s wine country. Purchased by famed Canadian sports broadcaster, Bob McCown in 2013, the winery has continued to evolve, launching the immensely popular Tragically Hip line of wines, in partnership with Canadian Rock icons, The Tragically Hip. Today, the winery operates in partnership with the Niagara Custom Crush Studio, Canada’s only Custom Crush Winemaking Facility. The studio has taken over the production of Stoney Ridge’s wines, and customers can enjoy them at their newly renovated facility still located in Vineland. Today, Stoney Ridge remains committed to producing 100% locally sourced, VQA wines, just as it did in 1986
