2019 Gewurztraminer
2019 Gewurztraminer
The Vintage:
The 2019 Vintage was a wild ride for Niagara, the season started with a cool, wet spring that put the vintage generally behind by about two weeks across all appellations. The peak summer months were warm and sunny, with several heat waves that brought high humidity across southeastern and southwestern Ontario, and with some disease pressure in the vineyards. The harvest season was chaotic weather wise, with warm spells in September, intermitted rainy periods and sudden cold snaps in October and November, keeping winemakers on their toes.
Tasting Notes:
This wine has an aromatic nose of lychee nut, rosewater, mandarin orange and lemon zest. This wine has an expressive palate, full-bodied yet balanced with citrus acidity and subtle spice. Fresh peach, orange marmalade, pomegranate, rose petal and jasmine are just some of the flavours to be enjoyed on the palate. A great pairing with equally flavourful foods including vegetable curries, butter chicken, Thai dishes, grilled salmon or roast turkey.
Technical Notes:
100% Gewurztraminer harvested from a single vineyard in the Lincoln Lakeshore sub appellation in Niagara. Grapes were harvested early in October and an average of 21° brix. The grapes were immediately pressed at the winery and fermented using selected yeasts at cool temperatures. After fining and filtering the wine was bottled under screwcap in May 2020. 150 cases produced.
